The Melio Solution
Melio5’s host-based volume management and file system technology is enterprise validated and in production at hundreds of government and enterprises across the globe, addressing the need for applications to define how they want to access the data. Melio5™ software delivers distributed scale-out, high-availability, and enterprise data services through software. It allows customers to achieve systems capability and scale-out on server-side and commodity storage using Flash, SSD, HDD and legacy storage.
Economics of Data
While Flash and SSDs provide high performance, they lack systems-level availability and are cost-prohibitive for high-capacity applications. Melio’s integrated Latency Targeted Allocator (LTA) provides intelligent data placement on hybrid volumes composed of multiple classes of storage – Flash, SSD and hard disk drives. Similar to Facebook’s Haystack architecture, random IO and file system metadata are automatically placed on high performance Flash and SSD while HDD provide low cost capacity for other data. . The result – a highly scalable, high performance, commodity storage based, data management platform at considerably lower cost than legacy storage arrays.
Systems Management & Scale-out
Melio5 software runs on the servers containing or connected to the storage devices over any block storage protocol. It gives each server independent, direct access to the storage for both metadata and application/user data. All operations are fully distributed, eliminating single points of failure and enabling linear performance scale-out. The storage pool created by Melio5 is centrally managed and provisioned scale-out storage and data management solution for both block and file access. Dynamic QoS enables control of data placement and application service level settings.
Policy-based management of Distributed data
Eliminating the need to deploy a redundant flash caching layer in front of legacy SAN hardware to improve application performance, Melio5 allows customers to dramatically improve their storage infrastructure economics by enabling server-side Flash, SSD and HDD as primary persistent storage. Through its extensive software RAID stack, Melio5 aggregates storage across nodes for scale-out, agility, availability and performance while providing enterprise-class capabilities such as policy based cluster wide snapshots, QoS, remote replication and centralized management and provisioning.
